Jesus; our confidence
“In him and trough faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.“ (Ephesians 3:12). In this verse, Paul says that our confidence is in Jesus, and by faith in him we have access with confidence. This is great! Our faith in Jesus makes the Almighty God trust us to come before His throne! We will now look at the foundation of this confidence and faith. As the end of life is drawing near, many people write down the disposition of their personal property in a will. The content of the will may be know to the heirs, but it is not valid until the testator is dead. The Word of God says ”in the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living” (Hebrews 9:16-17). Since this practice applied to people, it also applied to Jesus: “…being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man...” (Philippians 2:7b-8a). he only reason Jesus was here on earth was to do his Father's will: “Then I said, “Here I am- it is written about me in the scroll- I have come to do your will, my God” (Hebrews 10:7). This means that everything Jesus said and did, was according to the will of God. During his time on earth Jesus made many promises. All the promises we find in the Word of God is also in Him. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ”Yes” in Christ. And so trough him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God” (2 Corinthians 1:20). None of these promises could be executed as long as Jesus was alive. He had to die in order for the will to be effectuated, and the promises to be valid for us. We gladly accept our heritage from family members and relatives, although we can only enjoy it while we live on earth. The inheritance we have in Jesus covers all areas of our lives on earth and in eternity! And He died that we might participate in this inconceivable, great heritage. “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). Because the blood of Jesus was shed for our sins, we can boldly come before God with our prayers. This is Jesus’ will for us, and God will therefore fulfill the promises made in Jesus Christ. “Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new living way opened for us trough the curtain, that is, his body” (Hebrews 10:19-20). Primarily, Jesus died for us to atone for our sins. But he also died so that all the promises given through the centuries would be fulfilled for us who believe. “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded” (Hebrews 10:35).
