Have faith in God!

“In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, ”Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!” “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:20-24).

Everyone will experience difficulties and challenging circumstances in life. We can struggle with sickness, unemployment, finances or relationships. These situations may seem like invincible mountains, and can cause us to be paralyzed and perplexed. These mountains can keep us from progress, keep us from living in the light and cause us to be isolated and lonely.

If you recognize yourself in this, I have good news for you.

God is greater than your mountains! Regardless of the mountains surrounding you, what they are, and how long they have been there, God is greater. Your first step to conquering the mountains is to have faith in that God is able to help you. When you have faith in God, you have faith in His word. When you have faith in His word you will begin to speak differently and according to His word, even when your feelings and thoughts say otherwise. The words we speak hold great power: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21).

By saying “I will never be healed…”, “I will never have a job…”, “I will always struggle financially”, you will experience what you say. The opposite is also truth. By reading the Word of God we see what God wants for us: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Another scripture says that “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire, and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11).

Knowing that God wants us to have future and hope, we need to proclaim this in faith. When we speak out Gods word over our lives we will have progress.

You might think that you are not like God, and that your words do not hold this power. You are not God, but just like God spoke his word and created all that we can see, we can also speak. “It is written: I believed; therefore I have spoken. Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.” (2. Corinthians 4:13).

The same spirit of faith as whom? As God. God has given us his Spirit, the Holy Spirit. Whoever is born again has the same spirit that is in God, and can therefore speak according to the word of God, and expect a result.

Create therefore a positive atmosphere of faith by allowing yourself to speak as the scripture: “If anyone speaks, they should do as one who speaks the very words of God…” (1 Peter 4:11a).

When we know what the Word of God says about our mountains, they will disappear as we speak the word of faith against them. They might not disappear immediately, so don’t be discouraged when you feel pain in your body, get another rejection of a job application, or receive a new bill in the mail. “Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29). Breaking a rock into pieces with a hammer is not done in a day. It is a painstaking work, but the expected result makes you persistent.

Have faith in God and his promises! God is not a man that he might lie (Numbers 23:19). He is committed to act according to his word when we believe.

When you act in accordance with the word of God, you will find that it creates an expectation in you. An expectation that God will take away your mountains of difficulties and problems. When you speak according to the word, God will show his faithfulness, he will not let his words return empty.

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord Almighty. What are you mighty mountain? Before Zerubabbel you will become level…” (Zechariah 4:6-7a).
